Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan Syed Munawar Hasan termed the reports about rampant corruption in the public sector as eye opener and a matter of shame for the rulers and the entire nation. In a press statement here on Friday, he said that with the corruption ranging up Rs 7 billion daily at the government level, there could never be any economic progress and the poor are fated to go without basic facilities.

The JI Ameer said that according to media reports, Pakistan which was ranked 41 in the most corrupt countries in the past has now been adjudged as No 33. This proved that the Zardari government has broken all records of corruption. Zardari and his ministers in government have plundered the national wealth during the last five years' rule while his coalition partners too not missed the opportunity in this respect. The so-called people's government has even snatched the last morsel of food from the people. The prices of POL, electricity and gas are sky rocketing whereas facilities of education, health and employment remained a dream for the common men.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that massive corruption in the government has virtually ruined major public institutions including the PIA, OGDC, WAPDA, Railways and the Steel Mills. He further said that the ruling alliance is fully involved in the target killings and extortion in Karachi because of which the people of Karachi lived under constant fear and are shifting their families and capital abroad.
